Our 2024-25 Board

Our board was selected based on the student’s hard work and dedication towards Youth and Government

Our Founders and Presidents

Ty Coyle and Charlie Rosen

Ty Coyle

I first heard about Youth and Government from my dad – who participated in it when he was in high school.  After he told me how much he loved it, I looked for a Youth and Government delegation to join in the North Shore of Chicago and discovered that there wasn’t one.  I was so excited when the North Suburban YMCA said that they would support us in creating a local Youth and Government delegation.  I hope that founding this delegation not only inspires people to be more involved in the political process but also helps them to become more open-minded people by introducing them to other delegates throughout the state.

Charlie Rosen

My high school has a lot of great activities but not one that focuses on government and legislation. My research into relevant “real world” high school programs led me to the Youth and Government website. I noticed that the Illinois YMCA has operated a Youth and Government program in the state for over 70 years, but that there had never been a program in the suburbs north of Chicago. After Kathy Fielding, the Y's CEO, said the NSYMCA would sponsor our delegation, Ty and I recruited ten classmates to join. Year one was a great experience, and all participants are returning for year two.

Vice President of Recruitment and Outreach:

Alex Chalem

Alex was one of the first members to join Y&G in 2023. He is our VP of Recruitment and Outreach because of how committed he is to Y&G and enjoys recruiting new members.

Vice President of New Members and Social Media:

Ruby is one of our founding members, and this is her second year in Y&G. As a member of Y&G, she has been given opportunities to become a more informed and involved citizen! She is our VP of New Members and Social Media because of her knowledge of social media and also her social skills with meeting new people.

Ruby Werber

Director of Civic Health:

Maya is a founding member of the NSYMCA Y&G delegation, and this is her second year in the program. Maya is leading the NSYMCA’s participation in the Civic Health Champions Program. As a result of her leadership, the NSYMCA will earn its first Civic Health Champion Certification. She is excited to direct this program because she can help guarantee that future YAG members will have an opportunity to be involved in the same insightful learning experience she had.
